You remember the photo album of your grandparents?
Those pictures have a special character.
They don’t just tell you about old times, about the history of your family.
They look special, old but somewhat cozy.
We call this effect: yellowed.
You can also find it with old letters or newspapers.
Living in modern times we can create this effect artificially and on purpose.
The photographical process is called: Sepia.
Beginning in the 1880s, sepia was produced by adding a pigment, called sepia, made from the Sepia officinalis cuttlefish found in the English channel,[1] to the positive print of a photograph.
This color of the cuttlefish created the first way of coloring a picture.
When photography was young they weren’t able to make those colorful pictures we are used to.
So this was one way not to create a standard grayscale picture or as the common user says “Black and white photo”, another one was to color pictures manually.
Today I create this effect not only with a special filter of my digital camera, but as well via photoshop.

Ah, lovely pictures, Helen! But I still like the coloured paradise one! I so need a vacation already!
