Accent

An Accent is a special symbol right above the letter. It is used to emphasis the letter in a certain way, usually how to pronounce it. The origin of the word accent is Latin: accentus = emphasis.
Common Accents:
Acute (accent aigu) Á á, É é Ó Ú
Double Acute – in Hungarian or Estonian language: Ő ő Ű ű
Grave (accent grave): À à, È è Ò Ù
Circumflex (accent circonflexe) ˆ:Â â Ê ê Î î Ô Û
There are more signs for emphasizing, which are usually not called accents.
Trema Ä ä, Ë Ï  Ö ö, Ü ü … a very common sign in German.
Cedilla ¸: Ç ç
Tilde ˜ Ñ ñ, Õ õ
Breve ˘Ă ă Ĕ ĕ Ğ ğ Ĭ ĭ Ŏ ŏ U Ŭ ŭ
