I am a great fan of typography. I also think, that it is great when you use the corrects typographical characters even in web. Correct characters mean: quotation marks, depending on the language you are publishing in, or correct dashes. In one of my next TypoTips I will tell you, what the correct charaters are.
Today I am going to tell you, how you can create them in WordPress. Some like dashes, can be created with a special short cut via your keyboard, but characters like quotation marks are not always that easy. But you don’t even need a plugin.
Just go to your formating bar and select this
You will open the area for “Special Characters”.
Here is an overview of the characters!
And if you scroll over one, you will see at the right side the meaning of that character, like „ double low 9 quoationmarks
As you see it also helps you with currencies like € or £, or mathematical symbols ‰, ≥, ∫, or letters with accents: À, Ë, Õ, Ø, æ, å.
You can even enhance your post a bit, if you like: ♥♥♥♥
